17: Where did the idea for MailboxCam come from?
Q1: Does the MailboxCam come with a warranty?
A: Yes. The product has a 1 year limited warranty.

Q2: I'm a little nervous about making payments online. Is the wirelessimaging.com site secure for taking payments?
A: Yes. In fact we use PayPal to handle our transactions and they are one of the most trusted payment solution providers in the industry. For more information visit www.paypal.com

Q3: You previously had information about using the MailboxCam for monitoring mail, but I can't find it anymore. Why not?
A: We have decided to remove mail monitoring from our supported applications for several reasons. The demand for that particular application appears to be very small, there is a potential for legal exposure, there are federal regulations involved, and it will make it easier to enhance the product for other applications.

Q4: What does "Open Distance" mean?
A: Open distance or Line of Sight is a measure of the maximum operating distance between the transmitter and receiver under ideal conditions - Mountain top to Mountain top, no obstructions. This measure is unrealistic for most applications.

Q5: What does "Practical Distance" mean?
A: Practical Distance is the average operating distance between the transmitter and receiver that one can expect under normal usage - minimal obstructions.

Q6: What is the operating temperature of the MailboxCam?
A: -4 to 122 degrees F.

Q7: On your website you mention that the MailboxCam will operate from 10 seconds to 5 minutes before shutting down. Why only 5 minutes?
A: The primary purpose of the device is to view remote objects for short periods of time. We will include a power adapter which can be plugged into a wall outlet and will allow the camera to stay on continuously. A small modification would also allow us to extend the 5 minute limit. Please send us feedback if you would like to see this modification.

Q8: Can the MailboxCam be used for survelliance?
A: The product can be used for any legal activity where a wired connection is undesirable. Having said that, there are strict laws governing that type of application. We encourage you to check with your local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies before engaging in such activity.

Q9: Can you record the images on a standard VCR?
A: Yes, it works on most VCRs. Simply plug the MailboxCam receiver into the VCR's audio/video inputs. Connect the VCR's audio/video outputs to the TV's audio/video inputs. Change the stations on the VCR and TV to auxiliary. Start recording.

Q10: What makes this camera system different from others on the market?
A: Several things, but the heart of the product is the Remote Power Efficient Sensing Circuit that allows the camera to operate in standby mode for up to several months.

Q11: What focusing system does it use?
A: Manual adjustment of the camera lens.

Q12: Can more than one MailboxCam operate off of one receiver?
A: Yes, up to 4 cameras can operate on one receiver/system.

Q13: Is it still or video?
A: Color Video

Q14: What TV channel will the image be displayed on?
A: Accessory. Same as VCR, DVD etc.

Q15: Is it weather proof?
A: No, but the dome housing makes it weather resistant. We recommend that you keep the unit sheltered.

Q16: Is the MailboxCam night vision capable?
A: No, but we offer other cameras that are.

Q17: Where did the idea for MailboxCam come from?
A: I came up with the idea for the MailboxCam after watching my wife's 88 year old grandfather struggle to check his mailbox several times each day by walking up and down the stairs of his second floor apartment building. I wanted to find a way for him to view the contents of his mailbox without having to leave the apartment. There were wireless battery powered cameras on the market, but none of them would operate for more than a few hours without a battery recharge or replacement. After doing some research I purchased a few inexpensive RF components from a local WalMart to prove the concept and to create a prototype. With a few dozen revisions and modifications I finally found a workable solution and the MailboxCam was born.
